1 Kind Day

We are 1 Kind Day.

We’re social workers and creative practitioners, connecting meaningful lives with emerging technology.

We facilitate workshops for elders and people living with dementia.

Creative possibilities can heal personal stories, strengthen relationships, and create new horizons challenging traditional models of community care.

An older man with gray hair and a hat sitting on a sandy beach, watching children playing in the water with floaties in the ocean. The scene is during late afternoon or early evening with calm waves and clear sky.

Future; present.

Interior of a modern building with large windows overlooking a lake and hillside cityscape. Inside, a man and child are standing near the window, engaging in a conversation, with the man holding a piece of paper. The ceiling has artistic hanging decorations, and there is a large, abstract black sculpture in the foreground.

Redefining moments.

Our participants lead their own session goals and artistic outcomes. No artistic experience or tactile ability is needed. Just a quiet room,
a chair and a story.

Driven by research.

Our work is informed by current gerontology and social work research that amplifies the benefits of integrating both arts-based creative play and co-design practices into holistic elder and dementia care.

Collective imagining.

Our practice encourages embodied selfhood, creative equity and dignity allowing our participants freedom to experiment and participate creatively with their communities.

A black and white photo of an elderly man in a white shirt and a woman with glasses and curly hair. They are sitting at a table, and the woman appears to be helping or comforting the man. A younger woman with long dark hair is leaning over the table, engaging with the elderly man. The setting looks like a casual indoor space, possibly a community center or home.

Who are we?

Our practitioners have a unique field of experience across social work, counselling and arts-based digital media practice, working with individuals, families and non-for-profit organisations in Melbourne and abroad.

Our team are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We care about creative equity and de-colonising traditional models of elder and dementia care.
